Danish for Beginners(EILC)
Erasmus Course: Danish for Beginners

The next 2010 course will take place from tuesday 2rd august to thursday 26th august 2010.

What does EILC mean?
The Erasmus Intensive Language Course is part of the european Erasmus programme for students from all over Europe.
The European Comission under the Erasmus programme funds the course. It is a pre-semester programme designed especially for exchange students not speaking a Scandinavian language. It is open and free to all students having enrolled for an Erasmus stay at an institution for higher education in Denmark.
There are 30 places at our EILC courses in august, but only 15 places in january 2010.

What are the aims?
The course will provide the students with basic language skills in Danish, sufficient enough to communicate. The students will also become introduced to Danish culture, history and daily life.
Beside wellknown methods like lecturing and workshop, plays and games the course will offer advanced learning methods like task based learning, the use of portofolio, collaborative learning, and ICT-based self-directed learning.
The full EILC course counts 6.5 ECTS. In order to obtain the ECTS attendance to the language course is obligatory.
During the language lessons the students are divided into two groups for intensive training. The informal atmosphere at the school will facilitate student to student learning: you will learn Danish from Danes. Teaching methods arre communicative and transfer Danish culture.

Were does it takes place?
The course takes place in Aabenraa at Højskolen Østersøen, a folk high school, where the students are accommodated and have full board.
Aabenraa is a medieval borough with approx. 20,000 inhabitants. It is situated about 25 km north of the German border. The landscape is beautiful with a broad fjord and woods on the surrounding hills. The folk high school is situated within walking distance from the centre of the town of Aabenraa, directly on the coast road and the beach. From most of the bedrooms and the classrooms there is a splendid view over the fjord.
Højskolen Østersøen is specialised in teaching German to Danes and Danish to Germans in an informal way. Students at the Erasmus course are invited to take part in the cultural and social arrangements offered by Højskolen Østersøen.

How to prepare?
You can start preparing yourself for the language course through
www.irsam.dk - an ICT programme for learning Danish (and German). Choose “Lerne Dänisch im Internet” in the upper corner right.
The course is planned and implemented by Højskolen Østersøen in cooperation with UC South.
